Destination Guide – Beijing

Beijing sits in northern China and is China’s second most populated city after Shanghai. Beijing is China’s capital city and it is one of the most popular destination cities in the entire world. Millions of people visit the city every year, and there is a seemingly unending list of activities to do and sights to see in Beijing and nearby. Beijing is a very old city, dating back three millenia. It is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China and has been the political center of the entire country for the majority of the last seven centuries.

The city is well known for its many temples, palaces and gardens. Beijing is considered a cultural center in China due to the many treasured artifacts it holds as well as artwork dating back centuries. Beijing is known for it’s cuisine, especially the very popular Peking Roast Duck. It is also famous for it’s opera, and Beijing opera is considered one of the highest Chinese cultural achievements. Besides an active night life scene, there are hundreds of tourist attractions within Beijing and surrounding it, including the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, The Temple of Heaven, The Summer Palace, The Ming Tombs, and The Great Wall of China.
